| Who is true Devotees |
Lord Shri Krishna describes the characteristics of a bhakta or an ideal devotee. He does not hate anyone. He is friendly to all. He is compassionate and free from egoism as also possessiveness. He is equanimous in pleasure and pain, ever forgiving and ever contented. Having mastered his passions he has dedicated his mind unto the Lord. He is never the cause of unrest for the world, nor can the world upset him. He is free from joy and anger, fear and anxiety. He is beyond pleasure and hatred, sorrow and desires, and has abandoned all actions, good or bad. He has devotion and looks upon friend and foe with an equal eye and is equanimous in honour and dishonour. Ever contented, having no particular place to lay his head, he has steadiness of mind. Such a devotee is ever dear to him.
Who is true Devotees ?
It has been said in the scriptures that only those who behave sincerely and love only beings are entitled to be called true devotees. A satsang-priya rich man approached Param estranged saint Brahmalin Ramchandra Keshav Dongre ji and said to him, Maharaj, give us such a mantra, so that we can win the case.
The saint asked, against whom have you sued? He told that he has sued his brother for the property. The saint said, you show love for Ramayana. Did you not read the character of Bharata and Lakshmana in it? Bharata got the kingdom of Ayodhya, but he rejected it saying that its official is brother Ram. You pretend to be devotion. God is not visible directly. One has to have the feeling of God in the idol, but the brother is clearly visible. Whoever does not see God in his brother, what good will he do devotion!

After stopping for a few moments, Dongre ji said, those who want to do bhakti by staying at home, they should see the same soul in every person in the house. One should not behave in such a way that hurts anyone. Only a person who takes a pledge not to hurt any member of the house can get salvation even by staying at home. One who seeks happiness in the happiness of others, in fact, he is a true devotee. One who distributes happiness to others, such a person is very dear to God.
